Father Peter Konteh, Executive Director of Caritas Freetown was among religious leaders who attended the Faith leaders parade in Chicago, Illinois.

The Parade of Faiths is an event held in Chicago, Illinois, as a prelude to the Parliament of the World's Religions. The Parliament of the World's Religions is a global interfaith event that takes place every few years, bringing together religious leaders, scholars, and practitioners from different faith traditions to foster dialogue, understanding, and cooperation.

The Parade of Faiths is specifically designed to celebrate the religious diversity present in Chicago, which is known for its multicultural population and wide range of religious communities.

The event aims to showcase the various faith traditions that coexist in the city and promote interfaith harmony and understanding.

During the Parade of Faiths, representatives from different religious communities march together through the streets of Chicago, displaying symbols and banners representing their respective faith traditions.

Participants often wear traditional attire and carry flags, signs, or other symbols that represent their religious heritage.

The parade typically features a vibrant display of colors, music, and cultural performances, creating a festive atmosphere.

The Parade of Faiths serves as a public demonstration of unity among diverse religious communities and aims to promote tolerance, respect, and dialogue among people of different faiths. It provides an opportunity for individuals from various backgrounds to come together, celebrate their shared values, and learn about different religious traditions.

By celebrating Chicago's rich diversity through the Parade of Faiths, the event organizers hope to foster a greater sense of community, encourage interfaith cooperation, and promote a more inclusive and harmonious society.

Speaking from Chicago, Father Peter Konteh noted that the Parliament of the World's Religions serves as a platform for us to engage in meaningful conversations, to share our wisdom, and to collectively address the critical challenges facing our world.

He said it is a space where we bridges are built for the understanding, challenge stereotypes, and work towards a more inclusive and equitable society.

“In the opening plenary, we embark on a collective journey of exploration and discovery. We will hear from distinguished speakers who will illuminate our path, guiding us towards a deeper understanding of the role of religion in addressing the pressing issues of our time. We will celebrate the richness and diversity of our religious traditions, recognizing that our differences are a source of strength and inspiration, he said.”
