By Mohamed Konneh
The Executive Director of Caritas Freetown, Rev. Fr. Peter Konteh has called for the Cessation of hate speech.
Father Konteh was having a reflection during celebration marking International Women’s day calling on citizens of Sierra Leone to end hate speech.
He said ‘’as we reflect on the many challenges facing our beloved and beautiful country Sierra Leone, let us remember the importance of promoting unity, peace, and love in our communities. One of the ways we can do this is by stopping hate speech’.
The Executive Director said hate speech is a destructive force that can tear apart the fabric of our society. It can sow seeds of division and mistrust, leading to conflict and violence. We must recognize that our words have power and that we have a responsibility to use them wisely.
He continues saying ‘’we must choose to speak with respect and kindness, even in the face of disagreement. We must be mindful of the impact our words can have on others and refrain from using language that is hurtful or demeaning.
‘’Instead, let us focus on the things that unite us as a people. Let us celebrate our diversity and embrace our differences. Let us work together to build a brighter future for all Sierra Leoneans.
In these challenging times, let us come together in the spirit of unity, peace, and love. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and build a better Sierra Leone for ourselves and for future generations, Father Konteh narrated.’
