Catholic Priest Sends Wishes and Prayers for Muslims

By Mohamed Konneh

As Sierra Leone joins the world to observe the month of Ramadan, Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Peter Konteh sends wishes and prayers for Muslims brother and sisters.

‘As you embark on the holy month of Ramadan, I extend my warmest wishes and prayers to you. Ramadan is a time of reflection, spiritual growth, and devotion to Allah. I am aware that fasting is an essential part of your faith and a great exercise for your spiritual well-being, he said.’

He said as a Catholic, he understand the significance of fasting, noting that Christians also fast during the same time in Lent. Fasting is a way to detach ourselves from worldly pleasures, to purify our hearts and minds, and to draw closer to God.

‘I believe that both our communities share a common goal in seeking to grow closer to our respective faiths. As we fast and pray during this holy month, let us remember that we are all children of God and that we share a common humanity. Let us strive to build bridges of love, respect, and understanding between our communities. May this time of spiritual reflection and devotion bring us all closer to the path of righteousness and peace, Father Konteh said.’

May Allah bless you and your loved ones during this holy month of Ramadan.

Father Konteh s also the executive Director of Caritas Freetown, the development arm of the Catholic Church. On daily basis he will put out peace messages as well as thought of the day.

In his latest thought of the day he talks about treating everyone with dignity.

‘Human life has the same value. Our loved ones may be more important to us than others, but if we treat someone less because of their status, it is an immoral act, he said.’

Father Konteh noted that most of us treat people according to their social status. A person who is rich, powerful or famous gets treated far better than someone who is deprived. This is because we often get carried away by people's influence and feel they can be useful to us.

He called on people of the world to value every life and treat everyone with dignity. Everyone deserves your respect, no matter who they are.

‘Don't let negative situation or toxic people become barrier in your journey. You're powerful beyond measure. You've potential beyond imagination. Start believing in your strength and take charge of your life. Believe that you can make it happen and road will suddenly turn smoother. Most importantly always remember to be a peace maker, he narrated.’
