Umar Fuad Bawoh Appointed Arm Wrestling President
The Minister of Sports together with the Sierra Leone Arm Wrestling Federation have appointed, Ambassador Umar Fuad Bawoh as the President of the Sierra Leone Arm Wrestling Federation.
According to The Minister of Sport, Madam Augusta James Teima, the appointment is a remarkable achievement and evidence of the Ministry's strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to introducing new sporting discipline in the country.
The Minister and her team assured Ambassador Umar Fuad Bawoh of the Ministry's commitment and support to the Sierra Leone Arm Wrestling Federation and hoped that the president would develop and promote the discipline in the country.
Responding to the appointment, Ambassador Umar Fuad Bawoh said Arm wrestling is a new sport concept that needs a strong and effective structure because of its unique discipline and technicalities.
He said they plan to raise awareness nationwide and also introduce it in secondary schools.
“We plan to identify international and local coaches that will promote the arm wrestling sport in Sierra Leone. Presently, we have a body nationwide that identifies young and determine Sierra Leoneans as the federation is working towards organising a nationwide tournament,” he said.
The newly appointed Arm Wrestling Federation President recalled last year, that Sierra Leonean participated in an African competition where they won a gold medal by winning the third and fourth positions.
“Therefore, the arm wrestling sport needs to be popularised and structured.”
He called on Sierra Leoneans to give their support and pay attention to arm wrestling sport so as to maintain international accreditation.
Mr. Bawoh promised to give his full support and commitment to a sustainable arm wrestling structure that will put Sierra Leone globally and encourage women to come out and join the arm wrestling team.
Umar Fuad Bawoh's appointment came at a time when Sierra Leoneans are yearning for the introduction of new sporting disciplines in the country, and his leadership role to bound and set a powerful grip on the development of the Sierra Leone Arm Wrestling in the country, locking at new opportunities for athletes and enthusiasts alike.
His vision and dedication will change the narratives of the arm wrestling federation with the strategic force needed to pull through any challenge, ensuring that the sport's foundation is solid and diversified.
He said his tenure as president will focus on building a sustainable strategic plan that will capture the attention of young Sierra Leoneans who would want to become an arm wrestler in the future.
He cited nationwide engagements and awareness in identifying arm wrestling talents and introducing advanced technical skills.

The Arm Wrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) is the owner and organizer of an annual continental Arm Wrestling competition dubbed the Africa Arm Wrestling Championship (AAC).
Egypt was the first African country to join WAF membership in 1992, but Morocco and Mali, after representing Africa at the World Arm Wrestling Championship in Poland, were later joined by South Africa in 2002 to create the Continental Federation called Arm Wrestling Federation of Africa.
