EFA-SL Kick-Off Education Transformation Project

Education for All Coalition Sierra Leone in partnership with Africa Network Campaign on Education for All (ANCEFA) on Thursday 16th November 2023 held it project kick off meeting at the organization’s conference Hall, Robert Street in Freetown.

The project titled Securing Education Transformation Agenda in Africa's Regional and Sub-Regional Policy Spaces through Vibrant Civil Society Engagement in SDG4 AND AU continental Education Strategy for Africa is part of EFA-SL’s activities for the next two years. 

In his presentation, the Coordinator at EFA-SL, Joseph Cobina said the project is to consolidate in-country project gains and regional -level progress made in the implementation of continental Education strategy for Africa (CESA: 2016-2025) target for improved access to inclusive and equitable access to education.

Mr. Cobina said the sub grant is part of a broader project grant between ANCEFA and OSIWA in line with the implementation.

He said the Africa Union’s Continental Education Strategy for Africa’. Under the grant ANCEFA will work with the NECs to support project activities at national level.

‘At national level ANCEFA is implementing the project activities with national coalitions from 12 countries namely Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Zimbabwe,’ he said.

Mr. Cobina said the objective of the project is to contribute towards ensuring that inclusive and equitable access to quality education is improved in 12 targeted countries in line with SDG 4 targets and Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA: 2016-2025) targets.

‘The sub grant is supposed to be used for furthering the project objectives only and based on the action plan and budget agreed by the Coalition and ANCEFA for the project duration.

In particular, in Sierra Leone, the sub grant is expected to support the following activities as per budget,’ he said.

He said in each country, the grant is projected to support consultancy fees for national level consultancy and research, NEC and members quarterly coordination meetings, validation meeting, policy roundtable meeting, and media engagement meetings. 

Mr. Cobina noted that the sub grants to each country will be based on each programme activity based on the action plan and budget approved by ANCEFA. 

The Finance Manager at Education for All Coalition Sierra Leone, Augustine Kambo presenting the project financial aspect said the project will conduct Country-level training and mentorship session for the national education coalition members costing around $3,750.

‘We will hold quarterly National Education coalition coordination meetings for the project period & Project kick off meeting organize one policy round table in the participating countries,’ he said.

Mr. Kambo noted that they will Compile and share the African charter on the Right and Welfare of the child (ACRWC) shadow reports on the implementation of the right to education in the country and for input at the AU summit (Addis Ababa in July and January). $14,550.

He said the project will consolidate in-country project gains and regional-level progress made in the implementation of SDG 4 targets for improved access to inclusive and equitable access to education.

‘Develop and roll out regional analysis framework and research tools for assessing country progress on SDG4 targets on access to inclusive and equitable education, sustainable education financing, gender mainstreaming and education in emergencies (EIE), he said.

They will also compile and share the UN convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC) shadow report on the implementation of the right to education in target country ( for use at the country level meetings and global level in Geneva meetings) and that the project approved amount for EFAC-SL by ANCEFA is $ 20,300.
