AWWO To Construct Cold Room

The Chief Executive Officer of AWWO Business Venture, Umar Fuad Bawoh has said in Freetown that plans are underway to construct a cold room and a fish drying center. The Center he said will be located at Grass Field community and will served as a livelihood development for women and young Sierra Leoneans. 

He made this statement during the launch of AWWO’s first community livelihood fishing boat name 40 Acre M.A.R. Afrique 001at Grass field Wharf East of Freetown.

In Africa’s food systems, fish and other aquatic foods play a multifaceted role in generating income, and provide a critical source of essential micronutrients. To contribute to the future of fishing in Sierra Leone, AWWO Business Venture has initiated the construction of boats and plans to construct a cold room and a fishing dry center for growth of the fish sector in the country.

Approximately it is expected that thousands of young people will be employed indirectly along fisheries and aquaculture value chains for every person directly employed in the fish production stage.

According to community stakeholders and fishermen at Grass Field the fishing boats and other support from AWWO Business Venture and its foundation is crucial for personal growth as it provides individuals with the necessary assistance, resources, and guidance to thrive towards community economic livelihoods and a better standard of living. 

It is essential to recognize the value of support and empowerment under the AWWO initiatives noting that this intervention on community fishing development will institute more development for women and youths.

The Chief Executive Officer and Founder Awwo Children’s Foundation said promoting community livelihood and women’s economic empowerment can enhanced and improve basic social and reduce poverty. 

He added that fishing activities play a crucial role in shaping individuals and societies. He assured the community of more opportunities noting that the fishermen should take the lead to ensure that the boat is utilized for economic development. This he said is a community investment property and hoped that the grass field wharf will be recognized for standard and quality fishing methods. 

The Chief Executive Officer AWWO Business Venture Umar Fuad Bawoh said that plans are underway to construct a cold room and a fish drying center at Grass Field Community as a livelihood development for women and young Sierra Leoneans and therefore should be protected. He added that this is an introduction of the community into the fishing sector and that they will future serve as a fishing hub with determination and collaboration. 

He promised to work closely with the ministry of Youths to achieve its objectives on youth economic empowerment. He said recently he provided solar energy for the people at Grass Field Community and is also supporting excellent pupils with scholarships under its AWWO Foundation.

Deputy Minister of Youth Patrick M. Gibrilla appreciated the CEO of AWWO Investment Venture Umar Fuad Bawoh for being an industrious Sierra Leonean by taking the lead on youth livelihood empowerment. He disclosed that in the next one month the ministry will support and provide AWWO business venture with three or more boats including accessories on a half payment agreement for youth economic empowerment at Grass Field Community. He added that government of Sierra Leone has procured 50 boats and soon they will launch a kekeh project for the young people where they are expected to pay part of the original cost for addittional future investment.

He described Umar Fuad Bawoh as a self-working man with a legacy on economic development in the country.
