The Sierra Leone Police have intensified their search for one Fatmata Kamara of Kingtom who was alleged to have murdered her mother in law Madam Janet Pearce on the 1st January 2022 at Kingtom.
Police sources stated that the mother in law was dwelling together with her daughter in law (Fatmata), the wife of her son at Kingtom 10 Byne Street for the past six months and later found foaming inside her room dead. The Police Dossier as reported by one Hannah Lavalie (elder daughter of the deceased) states that Madam Janet (deceased) was in the house with the alleged suspect Fatmata when she went into Coma with foam in her mouth and died subsequently.
At that material time, Fatmata who by then was a suckling mother was staying together with the deceased (her mother in law) in the house though in different rooms and her husband wasn’t in town.
Talking to this reporter Hannah said that Fatmata had been calling for them to remove their mother from her matrimonial home because since she –deceased came to the house there has been no peace in the house, adding that if their mother is dead mysteriously in the house then that act must be done by Fatmata, ‘Fatmata is a witch, and she killed my mother.’
A close neighbor, James Koroma disclosed that prior to this period Fatmata had been having confrontation with her mother in law who constantly accused her (Fatmata) of being a witchcraft, evil and good for nothing individual.
He further stated that the daughter of the deceased came shouting, ‘ Fatmata have killed my mother.’ This statement changed the moment of morning to a riot and revenge as it spark a huge fight.
Prior to this, he said, Fatmata have been having challenges with her mother in law, despite the food and other care Fatmata showed her – Mother in Law, yet she constantly bashed at her calling her derogatory names that are demeaning in every human form. Koroma also mentioned that at one point, the old woman accused Fatmata during her pregnancy that she wanted to kill her by poisoning her food.
He noted that Fatmata was rushed at and grabbed by her hair by the siblings of the deceased saved for the timely intervention of other neighbors, Fatmata should have been killed with her daughter on her back. The child was swiftly rescued from falling off Fatmata’s back by neighbors and rushed to a nearby clinic. He said Hannah and her brothers were carrying machetes, sticks and other dangerous weapons to avenge the death of their mother. ‘it was due to the venom that we saw in them that we pleaded with Fatmata to leave the compound for her own safety, he lamented.
Police press briefing on Monday 17th January 2022 stated that they are investigating an alleged murder though the suspect is atlarge, a ransom price has already been tagged against the suspect one Fatmata for allegedly killing her mother in law on the 1st January 2022 at 10 Byne Street Kingtom. It further states that the suspect left the scene of crime in haste after killing her mother in law abandoning her young child.
The matter is under investigation and that the search for Fatmata is in force.
