Female Secret Society Forces Woman into Hiding

As tradition demands, Claris Koroma who was alleged to fell in the hands of the secret society women (stakeholders in Bondo Bush) in Freetown Sierra Leone is current on the run following the decision by her late father’s family to initiate her forcefully.

Report states that Claris Koroma was about to be trapped for a female secret society initiation, just after the death of her biological father.

Initially her mother’s family introduces her (Claris Koroma) to an elderly man for early marriage under the age of eighteen. Based on their customs and tradition, it was alleged that after several tussle between her (Claris Koroma) and her Mother’s family for an early marriage, she was then poison twice by an unknown person.  This was confirmed by a medical doctor in hospital.

Report further alleged that her mother Christiana Mamah has no option but to aid her daughter to runway into an unknown destination. Her mother is now facing series of challenge since she cannot disclose the location of her daughter.

It was learnt that when Claris arrived in the house of her aunt who happens to be the elder sister of her late father, she was welcomed as a daughter.

During that process report states that some societal women came around who immediately braced her up and started chanting leading to everybody rushing into their houses as tradition demands.

As it was, failing to initiate Claris Koroma into the female secret society, will be a total violation and no respect for their tradition and by extension the family. However, Claris was forcefully taken to the secret society bush but manage to escape before the ceremony could be completed.

The young lady ended up running away with the help of her mother who is also a member of the bondo secret society.

In Sierra Leone, failing to be part of the Bondo female secret society, you will be mock among your fellow women.

Despite western civilization and other UN Conventions on Human Rights and democracy, some part of the country is still practicing forceful initiation which sometimes lead to death.  Similar development has also left a lot of young women fleeing for their lives.

This development has led young woman like Claris Koroma to flee her own country. Some stakeholders in the town who refuses to disclosed their name informed this medium that it was good that the young woman fled from the traditional bush otherwise she would have been a dead by now.
