Secret Society Forces Ishael Sindeh Kondeh into Hiding
Activities of Secret society in Sierra Leone continue to forced young men and women into hiding and running away from places of birth and the country as a whole. Despite ongoing sensitization on the negative impact of secret society, yet in most part of Sierra Leone young men are still forced to be initiated into the poro secret society.
A recent development in one of the remote village in Luawa Chiefdom Kaliahun district eastern Sierra Leone has led a young man Ishmael Sindeh Kondeh to flee from his own country.
Ismael Sindeh Kondeh narrowly escaped death from the poro bush for refusing to be initiated in the society. Report monitored indicates that Ishmael of no 78B Moriba Mabarig off PWD for private business but unfortunately for him, since he was son of the soil he was later trap with the instruction of the authorities to be initiated.
Reports says that Ishmael Sindeh Kondeh and his family were in their late father’s house at night when a set of men from the said secret Society marched straight into their compound demanding that Ishmael Sindeh Kondeh has to go with them. This has forced the young man to upon hearing the news.
Poro secret society is part of the Sierra Leone traditions and culture and is been accepted in most part of the country. Ishmael Sindeh Kondeh accordingly should take over the position of his father his death.
It was alleged that this was follow just after the demise of his elder brother in a mysterious circumstance.
However, the young man who according to information, refused to initiated to the long existing compulsory tradition had to escape to an unknown destination.
The press was informed that the young man was early attacked and harassed by Poro society members and the mask devils, with the fracas going on.
Other stakeholders in the town told this medium that it was good that the young man escaped from the traditional society members before been taken to the initiation otherwise he would have been a dead man by now just like his elder brother.
Owing to forceful initiations of the Poro Society, it had always caused the death of innocent young men in the country.
Whatever the truth is authorities here have not given up search on him as report say he is still around the neighboring country.
What is more of concern in Ishmael Sindeh Kondeh case is the fact that some of the state’s holders are part of this Poro Society in the country that includes some politicians, police, military personnel and many more serving as active members.
