The Former Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Chief Samuel SamSumana, on the 15th November 2024, donated the sum of fifty million old Leones to support the Champions League competition organized by the Kambia District Council in collaboration with the Kambia District Football Association.
According to the organizers, the competition is geared towards increasing Kambia District players to a national level, adding the present goalkeeper for the national team is from Kambia District. They said this champion league competition will also bring social transformation and unity to the district. Seven chiefdoms in Kambia District with division one teams are taking part in the six-month-long competition.
The finals of the competition will be played on the 26th of April, 2025, and the winner will take home the sum of two hundred million old Leones as a star prize.
Addressing the crowd at the Kambia football field before taking the kickoff, the Former Vice President thanked the organizers for inviting him to such an event, which he described as timely and important for not only the players but the entire district.
Chief SamSumana said sports is an instrument that can bring peace in any society and therefore encouraged the organizers to use this initiative to foster peace and unity in Kambia District. This, he said, will make the district stronger.
The Former VP stated that the competition will serve as a step to identify potentials that will one day become superstars in the country.
