Sierra Leone Immigration Launches New Uniforms

The Sierra Leone Immigration Department on Friday 1st November 2024 launches brand new uniforms for its personnels. The new uniforms launched is a move aimed at enhancing the visibility and professionalism of the Immigration Department.
The launching, held at the Freetown City Council Auditorium, was attended by high-ranking government officials, CSOs, the media and well-wishers.
Launching the new uniform the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Tamba Lamina said the uniforms is a step toward institutional rebranding and it increases public recognition of immigration officers.
Ambassador Lamina noted that the new attire would facilitate easier identification of personnel, reinforcing the Department’s role in national security and service delivery.
He said there are several versions to Immigration and it vary from country to country.
“The transformation in the immigration department cannot be overemphasized. The new uniforms now reflect what our immigration look like,’ he said.
The Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, said since the appointment of Hon. Alusine Kanneh, the department had been decongested, people wanting passport now have a smooth ride and that there is efficiency within the department.
He said when you an immigration officer the public eye is on you.
“This is a new dawn and it gives you the opportunity to show professionalism. Your role includes stopping criminals entering into the country,” he said.
The Chief Immigration Officer, Hon. Alusine Kanneh while making his statement expressed pride in the uniform rollout, emphasizing it as a reflection of the Department’s dedication to modernization and increased accountability.
The CIO noted that the uniforms will contribute to a sense of unity and professionalism among staff while helping the public easily recognize immigration officials in their duties.
The Chief Immigration Officers said this is a revolution and that the uniform is not just a fabric but an identity putting the department in the right footing.
“This is a transformative journey. We now process in record time. By the end of November, this year's passport will be processed in Kenema, Bo, and Bombali and that 150 new staff been recruited and trained,” he said.
He said new corridors for passport processing will start in UK and the United States of America.
Mr. Abdulai Caulker, National Security Coordinator, Office of National Security, in his statement said the new uniform represents an empowered Immigration Department.
He said Immigration Department does a critical job, protecting our borders.
The ONS Boss called on the men in uniform to perform their role diligently, adding that Immigration is not just a mere service.
He congratulated the Chief Immigration Officer describing him as a forward-looking man.
The Secretary to President, Dr. Emmanuel Gaima, in his statement, congratulated the CIO and the department for the new uniforms.
He said people move from place to place, and they come across Immigration Officers and the reason why Immigration is very important.
Dr. Gaima called on the department to enhance coordination, invest in innovation, invest in equipment, promote community participation, and invest in their people.
He said President Julius Maada Bio is ready and willing to support the department in its drive to transformation.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd General David Taluva said the Immigration Department is one of the most important departments of the country.
He said Immigration officers are the first point of contact when leaving and entering a country.
“This new uniform have their own advantage. It is not just about brand, it show professionalism. Uniforms save time and money for the employee. It also provides protection. Uniform also advertised institution and enhances employee accountability,” the Minister of Internal Affairs said.
He call on the Immigration Officers to show respect for the uniform.
